Itineraries Departing from
Edinburgh
Glen Coe and
the Hidden Highlands A day to enjoy the
atmosphere of the Highlands around Rannoch Moor and
Glencoe, steeped in its grim history, and one of
the most dramatic of Highland landscapes. Departing
from Edinburgh, drive north over the Forth Road
Bridge and turn off the motorway at Kelty. Travel
through the Ochil Hills, past Knockhill racing
track, Powmill and Rumbling Bridge, an area with
interesting geology. Before the industrial
revolution, the Ochils used to be the centre of
Scotland's leather industry when Crieff was the
country's central cattle market. After passing the
luxurious 5 star Gleneagles Hotel, we arrive in
Crieff. Crieff had to be rebuilt after being
destroyed during the Jacobite Rebellions for
harbouring Bonnie Prince Charlie. It was later
restored by James Drummond, the Duke of Perth. We
continue west along Loch Earn and into the
beautiful forested region of Perthshire, then
through Crianlarich, stopping for lunch in Tyndrum.
Leaving Tyndrum and up over the remote splendour of
Rannoch Moor - the largest expanse of wilderness in
Europe. We now arrive in Glencoe, steeped in the
grim history of the massacre of the Clan MacDonald
in the year 1692. The glen is incredibly
atmospheric with a strange haunting beauty that is
quite unique. There are plenty of photo
opportunities here and time to enjoy a leisurely
walk with your driver/guide around Glencoe Lochan,
taking in the wonderful views. From here we return
south to Glen Etive, a wee secret place off the
beaten track with a stunning waterfall. Back to
Edinburgh now via Strathyre, Loch Luibnaig,
Callander, Doune and Stirling.
